Post-race blues.

It wasn’t even my race. I was just crewing/cheering for my two lovely friends: Kate & Marisa. But I’m still in post-really-exciting-event mode today. Trying to think of a good pick-me-up to get me through to 6:30 yoga tonight. (Running 9 miles on your “off” day means yoga instead of training tonight!)

"From 220lbs to Marathon Monday"

Not a Tumblr, but she’s my friend Kate’s training partner for Boston and she seems right up our crazy little alley.

So if you feel like you don’t get enough snot posts from Brenna or silly pictures from ShortMom/Moxy, check her out.

You guys love a good raffle for a good cause, right? Go follow Kate to see what she’ll be raffling off over the coming months as she raises money for the Boston Debate League and training for her second run of the Boston Marathon.

Tis the Season: Giving and Receiving
As you well know by now, in April I’ll be running my second Boston Marathon in support of the Boston Debate League and their work in Boston’s public schools. Last year, through generous donations – both monetary and in the form of raffle prizes – I raised $5,515 for the BDL. This year, I hope you’ll help me reach $7,500.
I’ve been a bit vague about my grand fundraising plans, but it’s time to let the cat out of the bag.
In brief: I’m hosting a virtual giveaway series on KateRuns, alongside live raffles, local events and other fundraising efforts just like last year.
Here’s how this will work:
Beginning December 12 (next week!) I’ll post one virtual raffle prize every Monday.
Every individual donor to my BDL fundraising campaign will receive one e-ticket for every five dollars donated, and a bonus ticket for every $20 increment – $15=three tickets, $30=seven tickets, $60=15 tickets, etc. I will email a ticket confirmation to every donor, and keep tabs on it as well.
To use your raffle tickets, simply leave a comment on the weekly prize posting, on KateRuns, Facebook or Tumblr, stating how many you would like to allocate for that prize. I’ll throw in an extra ticket if you share the post on your media of choice – just let me know where you have done so. Only one bonus sharing ticket, whether you share one place or five, and only if you’ve already entered a purchased ticket for that week’s prize.
On Sunday night, I’ll sort through the entries, assign an individual number for each ticket and use a random number generator to select a winner.
KateRuns tickets will not be transferable to the live raffle at February’s fundraiser, so don’t save them for Beer for a Year! On the other hand, if you use all of your tickets trying to win a subscription to Outside, and want to enter for a $100 credit at The Clymb, you can simply donate again to purchase more.
Want to send me a check? Give me cash in person? That’s okay, too. Email me at kate[at]ujcreative.com for a mailing address, or to meet up for coffee. I’ll track your donation just like those through Razoo, and will send you an email confirming your KateRuns tickets.
Want to donate anonymously on Razoo, but still want raffle tickets? If you’re willing to have me know your name and email, but don’t want to share that information with your donation online, drop me a note after donating – I’ll match up your donation, and email you a ticket confirmation.

Want to know what’s coming in advance? As things get rolling (read: once we get holiday cards made and out the door) I’ll put together a visual calendar of upcoming prizes – but suffice it to say, the earlier you donate, the more options you’ll have. The final prize will be posted on Marathon Monday (April 16), and your tickets are good for any week in between.
Why am I doing this? Because it seems fun! Extra overhead for me aside, I wanted a way to give back to donors, keep everyone involved and extend the fun of last year’s live raffle over the months of training.
More questions? Please ask – I’m sure I didn’t cover everything, and I’m happy to clarify. In the meantime, don’t forget: the first giveaway goes up on Monday!
Help me help the BDL!
TL,DR: Well, sorry, you’ll have to read it. But, raffle! Yay!

Lead Men - Boston Marathon

Mosop and Mutai — shoulder to shoulder, both on pace to beat the curreny men’s world record… first time that’s happened in Boston since 1947

Holy, wow. So glad I’m working from home today to watch this.

Also, announcer just said: “This is no longer an endurance event… this is pure speed.”

Hills, hills, hills

Since I suck and didn’t make up for Thursday’s run yesterday (the puppy needed his mommy post-surgery, I just couldn’t WTFU and drive to the gym, and the outside running conditions weren’t safe) —- I’m doing 6 miles today instead of 5. Which six miles might you ask? Miles 17.5 to 21 of the Boston Marathon course, backwards, and then the flattish 2.5 miles back home. These miles are known as the Newton Hills, and include Heartbreak Hill (elevation chart). Granted, I’ll be going downhill instead of up, but next time I run it I’ll do it the right way (and then get the biggest brunch with Maris).

Goal is to keep the pace slow & comfortable and just enjoy the run, the scenery, and the comraderie out on Comm Ave.

2011 Boston Marathon registration opens today. While I won’t be registering (definitely not at marathon-level in my running quite yet.. another year or two?), I’m thinking about volunteering again. What better way to be motivated on my own (half) marathon quest than to be right there on the front lines?
Any other fitblrs in/around Boston want to volunteer as a group? Email me.
