I mean, it's pretty accurate...
Spending NYE in fleece pjs drinking flavored soda water and playing a new Xbox game (Lego Pirates of the Caribbean) that Nick ran out to get 5 minutes before the store closed.
It’s not glamorous and I miss my friends, but I know it was the right choice. Comfy end to 2011, hopefully a healthy start to 2012.

HELP Needed! Road Bikes
Clearly being housebound leaves me shopping for things… like road bikes. (Preface: I have a really sweet custom mountain bike that my brother built for me. However, it’s currently being held hostage in California with my little sister.)
Are these bikes:
decent quality?
the right size for me? (5’6” 190 lbs)
a decent price?
Bridgestone Karuki SYD and/or Raleigh 12...
Too sick to run is not how I planned to spend today. But this cold got much worse last night. Instead I’ll be putzing around the house, cleaning and organzing to start tomorrow off right.
Good luck to all those capping off a great year with some crazy, epic health endeavor!

Cheese grater in my throat?
Gives me an inkling that after 4 days with the boy and his mom 24/7 (and his other family here & there), I have finally caught their plague. This does not bode well for my Jumpstart to 2012 plans for tomorrow.

Determination 2011 - Debrief
Physical Health:
1. Run 2 half marathons — Big Lake & Applefest (Also on 30by30)
DONE with a twist. I ran Big Lake, my first half, then signed up for a FULL MARATHON and in the course of training for that ran another half marathon and a 30k and about 400 miles total. Oh, plus those 26.2mi (42k) that I ran on the day of. Definitely exceeded this goal.
2. Hike at least 2 more 4000...

Eat all the things!
(Wish you could drink all the pepto.)
Almost - ALMOST - ready to be back to a schedule. Or at least cooking my own food and not being tempted constantly with delicious craft beers and wine.
(Though I did work for 5 hours cleaning up roofing material and hauling & stacking cord wood for my dad on Christmas Eve and the 26th. Man does not know how to take a day off.)

Annoyed by my official race time of 33:55 only because I know I can do better. But to do better I need to run more. Annoyance with myself may be the catalyst I need to get back out there.
Time to start looking for a spring race (21k or less)…

The boy got Kinect today at Target as an early Christmas present. Surprised at how much it actually raised my HR (Kinect Adventure). Not a vigorous workout, but fun, silly and better than sitting on the couch.

Crow Pose & Assisted Shoulder Stand
And if any of you were wondering, the answer to this post’s question was B. It was hard, kind of hilarious, and omg my shoulders are sore. But I TRIED!! I also tried flipping my dog — to pretty good success in both directions!
And I think Bonnie & I have a good yoga-without-breaking-the-bank game plan for 2012 when my one-month-unlimited trial is up at Baptiste.

I don’t know why I was such a mess this morning, but let’s take a minute to review all the things I forgot:
Scarf
Tights — brrrrrrr
Water bottle for yoga
Nuun for said water bottle
Any feeling of alertness
I feel like I slept much better last night, but I am still so tired, even worse than yesterday. Maybe it’s all this going to bed at 11 or 12 instead of 10...

Better Late Than Never
Right, Robin?
I was going to run 3.5 miles for Robin’s birthday tonight. But I promised myself that I am only going to run when I feel like it and not force it (my running-burnout recovery plan). And tonight I just wasn’t feeling it.
Instead I spent 3.5 hours doing long overdue chores around the house and helping the boy write a cover letter.
Then I did:
35 squats with perfect...

Happy Monday
I feel tired, but invigorated. Let’s try to keep that feeling through 8 hours at my desk, shall we?

– (90 minutes of pouring sweat in Baptiste hot yoga basics)
1 tag
It’s suddenly feeling December here. And I must have softened a bit since last winter because I really, really didn’t want to run after work. But I had a little chat with myself and I said, “Self, you said you would run on Thursday. So you are going to run. It doesn’t have to be a certain number of miles or time, but you have to put your layers on and do it.”
1.12...

sweatcetera replied to your post: Sweaty Pretzel —> Stuff Yo’ Face
Love hot yoga! Have you ever tried Bikram?
Nope. I’ve done one type of hot yoga before at a studio in New Hampshire, but it doesn’t say on its site anything about being Bikram. The class I most recently took was Baptiste.
What’s the different in the hot yoga types?

Sweaty Pretzel --> Stuff Yo' Face
What’s the sanskrit name for the pose called “Stuff Yo’ Face with Noodles”? If so, I want to be doing it right now.
After 90 minutes of hot yoga, I am starving today! Maybe even hungrier than I was when I was marathon training (or I have a little bit of training amnesia).
Can’t wait to go back on Saturday for the Basics Class — a little slower flow pace so I...

Currently eating banana bread steel cut oats for breakfast on my couch with some homemade coffee. Why? Sick. My ears are blocked, I’ve got the sniffles & runny nose, and I just needed a day on the couch.
PS, this might be my best batch of steel cut oats yet. Water, mushed banana, cinnamon, nutmeg, drop of vanilla, dash of maple syrup — mmm nom nom.

I ran.
For the first time in more than a month. Not a wog, not a waddle. A run. It was only 2.17 miles. It was 2.17 lung-burning miles. It was 2.17 can-I-still-do-this?-do-I-WANT-to-do-this? miles. It hurt. It hurt physically, in part because I have this lingering chest congestion I just can’t seem to kick. It hurt emotionally, in part because I remember when that distance at that pace was normal...

I stumbled across Celestial’s Sugar Plum Spice last night at the grocery store. I am in love.
“This celebratory blend combines juicy purple plums and aromatic spices like ginger and cardamom with tart hibiscus, floral chamomile and just a hint of sweetness. Every sip is a journey to the Land of the Sweets in Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, where the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy...

Cat, Cobra, Assisted Shoulder Stands
This was a flow I have never done before. There was a lot of on the ground and back work. This is also the first exercise I’ve ever done where the primary soreness the next moving was in my hip flexors and hamstrings. My back feels the best it has since my fall a few months ago.
I liked the studio, but it wasn’t my perfect place. I will be going back, but probably not every day. Now...

Every time I set a weight-loss goal, I get upset.
Alternatively titled: why I am going to try to only set goals I can control.
I should know better. I’ve posted before about my weight loss philosophy, about not focusing on the scale because I know it’s not the be-all, end-all.
But I need to remember that the pounds I weigh at any given moment is a reflection of a combination of factors, some in and some beyond my control. The...
