Thinking of my daredevil snowboarding sister this morning going into surgery AGAIN for her torn ACL (she’s 20, this is 2x in a year).

Red blood cells are kind of important
I was going to say fuck it to the gym last night by the time work was over and the boy came home. But then I remembered I had a free guest pass — so I convinced him to come with me. He helped me figure out some ideas for the big pulley weight machine thing, which was really nice. We have differing philosophies about weight and reps, but that’s fine. Then I wanted to bang out my 1 mi...

Tech T Slogan?
I want to request an addition to the Life as a Lion clothing line-up from Mr. 365. I want a long-sleeve tech T with thumb loops (if possible?). I’m just trying to decide what I would like the shirts to say on the back:
Give it all you’ve got,
Take five deep breaths,
And give some more.
or
Know where you’re going
so the struggle means something
And then I want a version...

Smile Friday!
+ Better than last Friday + Working from home + A balmy 35 degrees out (F, not C) + Dr visit - 186 wearing jeans!! + New dr being awesome, talking fast, and giving me a written to do list + Daydreaming about something tasty for lunch + Got a promotion + raise at work yesterday + Rewarding myself with a haircut, new sneakers, and… something else + NO plans until tomorrow!
The longer I go without groceries, the more creative my dinners get… wonder how many more days I can go?

Something I’ve been thinking about lately myself as I find fluctuating value in my BSC membership and cravings for a hot yoga class. (Plus there’s a paragraph quoting Theodora at losingweightinthecity!)

WIW: Deja Vu
Today: 185.0
LW: 186.4
Change: -1.4
Oh hey, 185, you look kinda familiar. So it’s good that I’m down, but it’s like the same pound over and over. Time to break the cycle: next week 184!

Today I am determined to have a good day.
On the to dos for the day:
Get engrossed in work projects so time flies by (i.e. get off tumblr after this)
Go to CitySports at lunch & find cheap-ish Yaktrax so I can get back to running outside instead of contemplating ways to kill myself while on the dreadmill
Cardio Kickboxing!
Groceries — cook birthday dinner for us & the puppy...

Exercise Gives You Energy
Get this: Expending energy on exercise actually creates more for you to use. “Research shows that physically active people feel more energetic oveall than sedentary people. It’s likely that exercise stimulates neurotransmitters, such as dopamine, and this creates feelings of greater energy.” says Patrick O’Connor, Ph.D., director of the Unviersity of Georgia exercise...

WI"W"*
(*I’ve been a day off all week. Sorry I’m not sorry.)
Today: 186.4
Change: +1.6
I didn’t really want to post this. I’ve been so good, I said to myself. But, wait, there were those 2.5 days I spent at the boy’s mom’s house, eating and drinking with abandon. Oh yeah. You can’t just be “good” half the time and expect solid results.

MYB's January JUMPoff: Day 19 Email
(Loved this so much I had to share it.)
How far out of your way do you go for other people? How much effort do you regularly put in to pleasing others? What lengths do you regularly go for those you love? And even for some you don’t? Now ask yourself: Do you give yourself that much effort, time and energy when it comes to things for your own personal well being? Often, we do not.

Warm-up: 20 minutes of moving/throwing/chiseling slushy, sludgey “snow”

Diet Detox Steps 1A & 2
1A. Sweat it out. All the toxins — buh bye! Did a 4.13 mile run on the treadmill (Oprah + treadmill? ZZZzzZZ), preceded by 5 minutes of kettle bell swings, followed by 10 min of high incline on the elliptical. A few pushups, some planks, stretching and the sauna. Perfect.
2. Eat a giant salad for dinner with pan grilled chicken, a little bit of bread, and a banana for dessert. I forget how...

Being at the boy’s mom’s is like a warzone of sugar & delicious fattening old school Greek food. I feel relaxed, but stuffed like a sugar-coated sausage. Pretty sure I need a veggies only detox for the next week.

dreambelieveachieve2010:
Take a mental snap shot of your life a year ago and compare it to the life you see before your eyes today. How have you changed? Think about your health. Write down on a piece of paper or a post it “12 months ago I never thought I’d …..” and stick it somewhere you will see it every day for the next week. Feel that sense of achievement. Embrace it. Remind yourself how...

Mangeons Comme Les Francais

10 Diet Lessons From the French (via my old WW leader, Arlene)
1. Petite isn’t just a dress size. One of the reasons France has an 11 percent obesity rate (as compared to America’s 33 percent) is portion control. “A croissant in Paris is one ounce, while in Pittsburgh it’s two,” notes...

Yesterday I pretended like I really wanted to go to the gym, but I was easily coerced by the boy and the puppy to stay home. It ended up being what I needed — an hour of cooking and falling asleep early on the couch.
Today I thought I didn’t really want to go, but felt obligated to make it to kickboxing. After 15 minutes of driving in circles desperately trying to find an open parking...

theflightrisk:
When I started blogging (almost) a year ago, I was slow. I had just begun running. There were blogs on here about training for Boston, or training for other intimidating events. There were people like leavefearinyourdust that were running distances and paces that I couldn’t fathom. I could only trot along for a half mile, maybe a mile…and then I’d walk/run/walk the rest of my...

On How to Get Your Mojo Back
Take back control. Do not give in to temptation — those cheesy fries you think you want even after you had bison tips, green beans and mashed potatoes at dinner? You don’t actually want them. Bonus points if you have a partner who refuses to indulge your whining and reminds you that you REALLY don’t want them.
Take a compliment. Stranger on the street says your...

0 to 60
This week I’ve gone from 0 to 60. From relaxing at the end of vacation, with hours of time to just do as a I pleased, to being booked solid all week. That’s not to say I didn’t have fun — spending the night restaurant hopping with my brother, learning new dance moves, seeing old friends — but I just feel exhausted. And I’m super busy (in a fun, social way)...

Bump, walk, bump, peel
My Introduction to Burlesque
So first off, this was only class #1 of a 4 class series. Since I had a LivingSocial coupon, I only attended one class. When I have more money though I’d like to go for the whole set.
Class consisted of warming up/stretching, bumps, walking, more bumps, removing gloves, and then a short history on burlesque. If you’re not a dancer or not used to focusing...

LW: 188.6
Today*: 185.6
(*Yesterday am. I knew I would be drinking beer last night with my little brother so I wanted a mostly accurate reading. Already chugging water this morning, have no fear, kids.)
Three pounds of bloat, sluggish whatever gone. Feeling more me. This is certainly my body’s happy weight as I’ve been hovering in the same zone for about 4 months. Not too worried...
